Are you expecting? Congratulations!!
Those aches & pains, sleepless nights because you cant get comfy and swollen ankles kicked in? And now, your hoping you can book a massage?!… Well you will be very glad to know that you can!
Massage has a HUGE amount of benefits whilst pregnant, including:
- Reducing swelling
- Lessen sciatic pain
- Ease muscular discomfort
- Tone loose muscles
- Relax tense muscles
- Help increase flexibility
- Increase blood flow & lymph flow which increases the elimination of toxins
- Strengthens the immune system
- Relieves anxiety & depression
- Eases sore spots
- Decreases stress
- Promotes relaxation
Carrying a baby changes your center of gravity & puts a lot of stress on the back neck, shoulders and abdominal muscles. At this point, it is extremely important that you look after yourself, your body and your mind. Your looking after you & baby now!
Did you know?… 10% of women suffer from migraines during pregnancy? This can be caused by hormonal actions or by stress and tension on the head, neck and shoulder area- usually because of poor posture! Massage helps relieve tension and improve the blood circulation.
Your blood circulation is working TWICE as hard whilst pregnant, and so leg cramps and swelling of the ankles or hands can be very common. A massage treatment boosts the circulation, encourages lymph to move around the body helping to remove toxins and reduce swelling!
There are times though, when massage may not be suitable during pregnancy and this includes:
- Extreme nausea/sickness
- High blood pressure
- Pre-eclampsia
- Diabetes
- High temperature/fever
- Abdominal pain/ cramps
If you are ever unsure, just ask your midwife. They will be able to let you know whether massage is suitable for you or not.
So, what happens during your pregnancy massage treatment?…
Well, firstly you will be greeted by one of our extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful team members who will take you up to our relaxation room, offer you a nice cold glass of water and leave you to fill out a consultation form. Don’t worry, you’ve not got to answer 101 questions, but our consultation process is extremely important to ensure your massage is suitable, it is safe to carry out your treatment and to tailor your massage to your needs!
Once your consultation has been filled out, your therapist will take you through to your treatment room, run through your consultation and find out anymore information they may need to know and set a treatment plan for you!
Throughout a pregnancy massage you will always be lay on one side, with extra towels and pillows to support you if needed, or lay with the bed raised to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the treatment!
